Status Oblique takes to the dance floor with a tale of despair for the project’s third single “Falling Down”.

As well as adding synth-pop/industrial stylings to the usual dream-gaze leanings, “Falling Down’ features a new vocal collaborator in Perth artist and musician Luna Chiomara.

The signature desolate post-punk synth drums and soundscapes kick off the track, with the signature chorused bass guitar scything through the mix with a mournful hook.

The elegant and powerful vocals bring an immediate edge of desperation to the song, with the suggestion of impending catastrophe.

A pacey atmospheric chorus gives the song it’s punch, breaking through in between a melange of distorted guitars.

Status Oblique composer Roshan says the track was an example of allowing his influences and the vocalist to drive the song’s direction.

“I really wanted the synth-pop to cut through a bit more on this and when I heard Luna Chiomara’s voice, we pushed back the guitars in the mix to let the vocal breathe more and take the song in a different direction to the previous Status Oblique singles…”

Luna Chiomara is an experimental solo bassist and vocalist who produces intense yet ambient Gothic post-rock, shoegaze and experimental folk vibe. Her vocal style was a perfect match for the Status oblique sound.

She said, “Roshan sent me a few songs to listen to and this track immediately struck me as the one I wanted to work with. The melody and lyrics came together so quickly, almost like it was meant to be!” she said.

Falling Down is the second Status Oblique release on Transmission Nova Records, and was again mixed by label boss Almark.
